A gang of around 15 people hurled fireworks and fired birdshot at police guarding a hotel in Giza's Haram district on 7 January where Arab Israelis were staying without hurting anyone. Unknown assailants had gathered outside the hotel and carried out the attack, which it said targeted police guarding the hotel, who fired back. Associated Press International reported that an Egyptian Islamic State affiliate claimed responsibility for an attack on the hotel near the Giza Pyramids, and that after throwing Molotov cocktails, the attackers "started firing at the hotel with live bullets." |
