Election Violence: Demonstrations were held in Kinshasa against the judgment of the Constitutional Court authorizing President Kabila to remain in power beyond 2016 in order to organize elections. The protests had earlier been banned. Police fired tear gas to disperse the protesters which numbered around 5,000, and the protesters responded by throwing stones, wounding as many as 35 police officers. An MP of the MLC, Eve Bazaiba, also claims to have been shot by the police during the march. |

Clashes occurred between police and students of the Higher Institute of Applied Technology (ISTA) in Kinshasa. The students were protesting to demand the release of students arrested by university police on May 24 as they distributed pamphlets advertising a march by the opposition parties. At least 30 protesters were wounded during the clash, as police allegedly used live ammo alongside tear gas to disperse the students. At least 6 policemen were also injured. |
