Between 5-8 people were killed, including 1-4 FARDC soldiers (anonymous source in the Republican Guard claims 4 according to AFP) and 4 assailants, and several wounded, during an attack by heavily armed suspected UPC gunmen on Goma airport. 3 gunmen were also arrested. The attackers were believed to be attepting to rob supply depots at the airport, as well as potentially an arms depot, while another source claimed the gunmen were associated with an unidentified rebel movement created by Mbusa Nyamwhisi (later sources point to UPC involvement as well). At least one of those killed was a member of the Republican Guard. The assailants were then chased into Goma town by the FARDC soldiers. |
