The suspected al Shabaab elements then detonated the remaining four. The perpetrators' use of small charges in the IEDs saved the lives of the Somali/AMISOM who rushed to the scene after the first explosion. The confrontation was reportedly triggered by the killing of a local pastoralist by al Shabaab (reason unknown). In revenge pastoralists from the area ambushed a group of al Shabaab militiamen and stole their battle-wagon, killing in the process two al Shabaab fighters including a well-known local commander. Al Shabaab initiated a second clash shortly afterwards and recovered their vehicle. A total of four persons were killed, and an unknown number were wounded. The local militiamen involved in the clash fled the area. |
