Habar Jeclo/Reer Biniin clan militia carried out a hit-and-run against police based in Diiriye Guuleed Village (16km N of Burao) in the morning of 18/10. The two sides exchanged gunfire briefly after which the clan militia withdrew. Police arrested six militias during the brief clash. The police were deployed to the area to prevent clashes between Reer Binin and Abdala Arab sub-clans following a dispute over land ownership in the area. The attack is believed to be related to the recent ruling by the mediation team from the house of elders, which ruled that the disputed land belongs to Abdala Arab, a decision strongly opposed by Habar Jeclo/Reer Binin. Causalities/injuries not known. |
