The People's National Army services dispatched rapid intervention units to the Azdjar desert in the Tassili region, Illizi Province, to cut off communication lines between Belmokhtar, the emir of the Signed-in-Blood Battalion and Tarmoune, the leader of the Movement of the Sons of the Sahara for Islamic Justice. The units would be supported by three helicopters and accompanied by senior officers of the special forces known as Al-Sa'iqah [thunderbolt] of the Regional Directorate of Military Security in Biskra. |
