Violent clashes between the FAA [Angolan Armed Forces] and UNITA [National Union for the Total Independence of Angola] have been taking place 12 near Malele (border town with Angola), since 20th April. FAA forces are being backed by personnel from two military fronts: the DRC and other parts of Angola. The air force has intervened since the early hours of 20th April. The source said FAA forces from the DRC have taken control of the Malele border post, 60 km east of Maquela do Zombo, in an operation designed to prevent Jonas Savimbi's soldiers from withdrawing to Buengas. |
