Democratic Republic of Congo forces exchanged fire on Sunday with around 100 tribal insurgents in Mbandaka in Equateur. A UN soldier from Ghana was killed. The assailants received support from former soldiers of the DSP (Praetorian Guard of late President Mobutu), elements of the former army of Zaire, the DPP (personal bodyguards of former Deputy President Jean-Pierre Bemba currently in detention at the International Criminal Court) and a few demobilized persons. The assailants also claim to be part of the Liberation Movement of Independent Allies, whose chairman is Ibrahim Mangbama and its military chief Undjani, a son of Ibrahim. These names were mentioned at the start of the insurrection in Dongo in October 2009. |
