Striking employees proceeded to attack the HQ of the gendarmerie, armed with a variety of weapons including guns and at least one grenade, to attempt to release their fellow workers. Police fired into the air to disperse the crowd of about 100 people, where at least 1 civilian was believed to have been killed. Clashes followed. At least 2 fatalities resulted in total, as well as 11 seriously injured. At least 3 injured were police officers. 1 soldier and 2 police officers were killed in unrelated incidents in the same area (murdered by bandits and a road accident respectively). |
