A major gun battle broke out Friday along the coast of Lake Chad, in north-eastern Nigeria, where troops clashed with Boko Haram fighters into Sunday, forcing civilians to flee into the surrounding brush lands. The majority of the causalities (185, plus injuries; 30 of whom were attributed Boko Haram) were civilian bystanders. Security forces arrest several members of Boko Haram following the clash. Conflicting account: The military said residents' claims that 185 people were killed during the attack were false. |
