Thousands of Ogoni youths protest the APC party's decision to nominate a particular candidate for governor. They said [the party] deceived the Ogonis into thinking that he would give the governorship ticket to them. [The protesters] blocked major junctions of the East-West Road at Eleme, Akpajo and Tai in the early hours of the day before heading to the main gate of Government House, Port Harcourt, where they lit tyres and other incendiary materials and sang war songs. Two protesters (some accounts report 10) were injured by police gunfire when they intervened at the government house. |
