Fighting broke out between Somaliland forces and SSC militias (NSUM) over the weekend in the outskirt of Widh Widh. Residents are fleeing as both parties are reinforcing their military. In response to the Somaliland forces moving into their areas, the SSC, Aka North Somalia Unionist Movement, militias mounted an attack over the weekend on the Somaliland military positions at Widh Widh.There has been no official response from the Puntland Administration. Potentially the SSC militia is viewed by Puntland both as a blessing and a curse. On the one hand they represent a threat and the other an ally against an increased Somaliland presence in the area. |
