Heavy clashes were reported in Miirjiicley (35km SE of Cadaado) were Ayr and Dir clan militias were engaged in a dispute over the construction of berkads (ground water reservoirs). The clashes started after Dir clan members started the construction of a berkad in Xananbuure, an Ayr village 8km south of Miirjiicley, an action that was opposed by local Ayr clan members who were not ready to share scarce water resources in the area. The clashes led to the death five of persons and the injury of several others. The Imam of Miirjiicley and a new member of the ASWJ parliament were part of the fatal casualties. ASWJ and local elders are said to have intervened to resolve the issue. |
