Clan militias belonging to the Sa'ad and Omar Mohamud clans clashed in Laasacigaal (about 105km NE of Galkacyo). At least one person hailing from the Sa'ad/Nimcaale sub-clan was reported killed and several others were injured. The conflict is motivated by competition over grazing lands. The Speaker of the Galmudug elders Yaasin Mohamed Goon told the media that a conflict mediation framework was being put in place to resolve the dispute. The Puntland and Galmudug administrations did not comment. The situation in the area remains tense. |
