Fighting between clan militias of the Sheeqaal and Omar Mohamud clans took place in Galkacyo north, close to the green line. The reason for the fighting is currently unclear. Unconfirmed report indicates that the fighting broke out after Omar Mohamud militias shot at a vehicle owned by a Sheeqaal. At least two people were reported killed and nine others were injured in the fighting. Relations between the Sheeqaal and the Omar Mohamud and Puntland authorities have been tense in the recent months. Fighting between the Omar Mohamud militias and Puntland forces on one side and the Sheeqaal militias on the other previously took place inBulo-Basley IDP settlement locatedin Homaar village on 23/12 after Puntland authoritiesmoved in the settlement to mark and register dwellings located in Puntland (the settlement is on the border between Puntland and Galmudug) for taxation purpose. |
