A group of youths hailing from Dhulbahante and Warsangeli sub-clans staged a demonstration in Ceerigaabo in the evening of 19/09. The youths were protesting against the arrest of seven traders hailing from the two sub-clans after they were reportedly found selling goods in Somali shillings, whose used had been banned by Sanaag regional officials on 05/09. The protesters burnt tires during the demonstration. Police came and shot in the air to disperse them but the youth fired at the police, who withdrew. A group of Isaaq youths later attacked the protestors using stones. The demonstrators also fired at the Isaaq youths injuring three of them. Police later arrested three demonstrators. |
