Al Shabaab fighters loyal to Godane clashed with the loyalist of Abu-Zakaria in Godan Dhowe (40km S of Bulo-Xawo) in the evening of 12/10. Reports indicate that the pro-Godane militia attacked the village in order to capture Abu Zakaria, who reportedly crossed the border to Kenya the past few days. Abu Zakaria is believed to be a close ally of Sheikh Aweys and disappeared shortly after Aweys surrendered to authorities in Himan and Heeb. Unconfirmed reports indicate that he had facilitated the escape of Aweys from Baraawe by boat. |
