Unidentified gunmen ambushed a campaign vehicle belonging to one of the presidential candidates in Puntland near Burtinle on 01/11. The gunmen opened fire at vehicle. Two passengers were reportedly injured in the attack. The gunmen carjacked the vehicle and also abducted the driver. The presidential candidate whose team was attacked, Abdiweli Mohamed Gass, a former SNG prime minister, condemned the attack. In a press statement issued on 02/11, Mr. Gass accused President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole of being behind the incident. He described the attack as President's Farole's "scare tactic to create insecurity" aimed to derail the election process. Puntland MPs will go to poll to elect a new president on 08/01/2014. |
