Two groups of pro-Somali militiamen from the Marehan/Reer Hassan and Rahanweyn/Moalim Weyne sub-clans clashed in Luuq District on 02/11. A Marehan militiaman and a Rahanweyn civilian were reportedly killed. Tensions between the two groups erupted after the death of a Marehan/Reer Hassan militiamen who had been injured during an operation that was targeting Rahanweyn/Moalim Weyne militiamen who had abandoned their positions around Luuq due to the non-payment of their salaries. Reports further indicate that Ethiopian military commanders intervened and arrested an unknown number of militiamen from the two sides. |
