Al Shabaab fighters carried out a complex attack against Beled Weyne police station in the morning of 19/11. The attackers first denoted a VBIED to clear the gate of the station before storming and starting engaging in a serious shoot-out with the police. At least 20 people, including the attackers and police, were killed and scores of others were injured in the attack. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack and said special forces from its operations brigade carried out the attack. Some reports hold a death total of 19. |
