Al Shabaab fighters ambushed a group of pro-Somali government forces (affiliation not provided) near Jana Cabdalle Village (57km SE of Afmadow) in the morning of 24/11. The two sides engaged in a brief exchange of gunfire. Reports indicate that one soldier was not accounted for. It is unclear whether he defected to the al Shabaab side or lost his way. The pro-government forces had left Afmadow and were heading to Kismaayo when the ambushed took place. Further reports indicate that the pro-government forces abducted an armed civilian in the ambush area and his body was found in the outskirts of Kismaayo on 26/11. It is not clear if he was killed because of being an al Shabaab suspect or because of his gun, which has a street value of 1200 USD. Casualties on al Shabaab side are unknown. |
