Police in Lawya Caddo Village (Zeylac District) reportedly assaulted a local a reporter for the Hargeisa-based TV on 20/12 for covering a demonstration staged by local residents and a group of travellers. The demonstrators were reportedly protesting against the new tax rates imposed on commercial vehicles and passengers crossing the border to Djibouti. The reporter managed to escape from the police but they later picked him from his home and detained him. Reports indicate that he was released after two hours. |
