A group of people staged a demonstration in central Burao in the evening of 22/12 in protest against the transfer of the divisional police commander. The protestors accused the police commissioner of contributing insecurity in Togdheer by transferring the competent commander who had improved security in the region. The demonstrators reportedly stoned vehicles using the main road and damaged some of them. Police arrived at the scene but did not manage to disperse them. The protesters dispersed after local traditional elders intervened. |
