Hundreds of people, mostly youths and women, staged a violent demonstration in Mohamud Ali Secondary School area, Star and Scandinavian hotels along the airport road in Mohamud Haybe District in the morning of 28/11. The demonstrators were protesting against the tax imposed on water delivered by water bowsers in Hargeisa. Water bowsers' drivers suspended water delivery in some parts of Hargeisa following the new levy a day ago. The demonstrators used stones to block the road and burnt the tires along the road towards the airport. The demonstration later spread to the neighbouring Ahmed Dhagah District. Latest reports indicate that the water bowsers operators resumed work following talks with the government. |
