The head of Jubaland intelligence was shot and killed by one of his body guards in Sinai neighbourhood in Kismaayo in the evening of 17/02. Another bodyguard and the victim's driver were also killed. The incident happened as the intelligence's chief was moving in his vehicle with two bodyguards. The killer is reported to be a former al Shabaab member who had defected four months before. Both the killer and the victim hail from the Ogaden/Mohamed Zubeyr sub-clan. The al Shabaab movement had reportedly put a bounty on the head of the intelligence chief. The al Shabaab movement claimed responsibility for the attack. Other reports hold five deaths in the incident. |
