AMISOM/SNG forces launched an attack against al Shabaab fighters near Buulo Mareer (30km SW of Marka) in the morning of 30/08. Reports indicate that an intensive fight broke out between the two sides which lasted for three hours after which the allied forces managed to take over the town. Casualties from both sides could not be established. Later in the evening al Shabaab retaliated with heavy mortar fire toward the town. Al Shabaab later claims to have killed 20 solders between this operation and a clash in nearby Golweyn, despite the loss of territory. |
