Pro-Somaliland militias (Warsangeli/Dubeys sub-clan) attacked pro-Puntland militias of the same sub-clan based in Dhahar (170km S Laas-Qoray) in the afternoon of 25/09. Reports indicate that the clash followed after Puntland delegations led by the minister of livestock and the deputy minister of justice (both Warsangeli) visited Dhahar on a mission to mobilize the local residents to nominate members of the local councilors and to open a local government office. Local traditional elders intervened and managed to stop the brief clash between the two sides. A pro-Puntland militia was reportedly killed while a pro-Somaliland militia was also injured. Latest reports on 26/09 indicate that Somaliland deployed five battle wagons in Dhahar following the clash. |
