Suspected al Shabaab militia ambushed a convoy of a UN contractor escorted by SNG soldiers in War-dagaal (24km W of Beled-weyne) in the afternoon of 20/10. The two sides exchanged gunfire for about 40 minutes after which the attackers withdrew. The convoy was heading to Qurac Joome village when the ambush happened. At least seven combatants from both sides were killed while three others were injured. Latest reports indicate that convoy safely reached its destination. At least one report holds the attack occurred on 21/10. |
