Hundreds of people staged violent demonstration in central Laas Caanood on 01/12 in protest against the local Somaliland authority for failing to properly investigate the killing of a policeman (Dhulbahante) at the eastern checkpoint on 01/12. Somaliland authorities claimed that the policeman was killed after Khatumo forces' carried out a hit-and-run attack against the checkpoint, which was denied by the Khatumo's interior minister. The protestors reportedly burned tires and damaged several business premises. Police shot in the air to disperse the demonstrators. They also arrested number of protestors and suspected organizers. No casualties were reported. |
