Thousands of angry demonstrators in the South Darfur state capital Nyala clashed with police on Thursday as they protested the murder of a businessman a day earlier, witnesses said. police fired live ammunition at some violent rioters. Witnesses told Human Rights Watch that some protesters set fire to several cars, including the governors, and attempted to force their way into government buildings. Police shot teargas and live ammunition. Three people were killed on the spot including two boys aged 11 and 12, and scores more were injured. As of September 24, seven protesters had died from the gunshot wounds. |
