Security forces intervened Sunday morning to lift the sit-in observed since last May 31 by a group of unemployed people at the industrial zone in Gabes, blocking the railway used to carry phosphate from production units of the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT). The police used tear gas to disperse a group of youth who attempted to attack them by throwing stones. Efforts were made by the local authorities to lift the sit-in through dialogue but some sit-inners were determined to continue their protest. |
