4 people were killed in violent clashes in Brazzaville and Pointe Noire between security forces, who fired tear gas and shot into the air, and demonstrators who were protesting against the holding of a constitutional referendum to allow President Sassou to run again. 3 of those killed were in Brazzaville, at least 2 of whom died by gunshot, while 10 people were also injured, including 5 by gunfire. 3 police were also seriously injured. 16 people were arrested and there were reports of houses being burned, including that of the Minister of Trade and Supply. A police station was also allegedly burnt down. |
