Local clan militias clashed with Somaliland police in Qarasgoy Mountain near Sheikh town on 06/02 following dispute over land ownership. The clash followed after the government granted the disputed land to a foreign investor from Kuwait to develop a solar plant station to supply electricity to Sheikh and surrounding villages. The fighting was initiated by the local gunmen who claimed the ownership of the land. A Somaliland police officer was slightly injured. The police arrested three gunmen while the rest managed to escape. |
