Ninja Nsiloulou militiamen allegedly infiltrated Brazzaville and attacked a military position in Mayanga and the central police station of Djoue, as well as the police stations of the Bacongo, Makelekele, Lemina and Kinsoudi neighbourhoods, all in the southern areas said to be loyal to the opposition. These police stations were burned, along with many buildings in the Makelekele area, including the mayor's office. Gun battles between the militiamen and police/military involving heavy and automatic weapons were reported. There were implications that the attacks were related to the recent presidential election, but no proof was provided. The government also accused the militiamen of committing "various atrocities on civilians". In total, 17 people, including 3 police, 2 civilians and 12 militiamen, were killed in the fighting, while 6 police were injured. At least 55 alleged Ninja militiamen were arrested. |
