On 25 April, flashprotestswere reported in in Cairo's Talaat Harb Street. 270 people were reported arrested. Before protestors were dispersed by police, they voiced anti-government chants, demanded the removal of President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi and denounced the agreement under which Egypt ceded two Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia earlier this month. The protesters who gathered in a small square came under tear gas fire after a first police van at the scene was pelted with stones. Supporters of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi were also seen chanting "the police and the people and the army are one hand". Around 50 activists, including leading leftist dissidents, gathered suddenly at a city centre square. Rocks were thrown at police who responded with tear gas. |
