Around 3,000 Egyptian journalists demanded the sacking of the interior minister at the Journalists' Syndicate on 4 May, after an unprecedented policeraidto arrest two reporters. Members gathered and chanted "the interior ministry are thugs". Dozens of pro-government demonstrators also gathered outside the syndicate in downtown Cairo chanting calling for Sisi to "slaughter" the journalists as they entered and exited the building. Simultaneously, =dozens of lawyers staged a protest outside the Lawyers Syndicate on 4 May, located next to that of the journalists. Security troops banned lawyers from entering to express solidarity with the journalists. |
