A local councillor was abducted by unidentified gunmen believed to be from his own sub-clan in Burco on 17/05. The motive of the abduction remains unclear but it is believed to be related to a recent no-confidence motion tabled by some local councillors including the abducted official against the mayor of the town over corruption allegations. The councillor and the mayor both hail from the same sub-clan (Habarjeclo/Reer Biniin). The abducted councillor was reportedly taken to Naqdhibiijo Village (46km SE of Burco). Burco police conducted security operations in the outskirts of the town in search of the abducted official. |
