A large number of pro-Khatumo local residents staged violent demonstrations against Somalilands 25th Independence Day celebrations in Laas Caanood on 18/05. The protestors marched in the streets chanting anti-Somaliland slogans, burning tyres and throwing stones at police forces. The security forces reportedly fired live bullets at protestors, leading to the death of one and the injury of another. Shooting was ongoing at the time of reporting in various neighbourhoods, including Farxaskule, Madareemin and Gooladda. |
