Election Violence: Demonstrations were held in Goma against the judgment of the Constitutional Court authorizing President Kabila to remain in power beyond 2016 in order to organize elections. Police used tear gas to disperse the protest, which was banned, while the protesters threw stones, blocked roads and burned tires. At least one protester was also allegedly killed while trying to wrestle a rifle from a police officer, while 2 police and 5 protesters were wounded, and 20 people arrested. |
