An al Shabaab car-bombing and subsequent raid kills more than 60 AMISOM-ENDF soldiers when it detonated at a Halgan military base on 09/06. The soldiers inside responded, killing "several" of the attackers. Al Shabaab quickly claimed to have killed 60 Ethiopian soldiers and lost 16 of its own fighters. (Agence France Presse) The death toll is expected to rise. Disputing the causality figure, the Ethiopian government dismissed a claim by the Shabaab that they had killed dozens of soldiers, while losing just 16 of their own fighters, additionally claiming it had killed 100+ of the al Shabaab attackers. The Sudan Tribune reported the deaths of 248 al Shabaab. Somali Security Minister Abdirizak Mohamed Ahmed told state-owned Radio Muqdisho that officials had counted 240 bodies outside the base. |
