Heavily armed unknown group attacked military forces and government officials in state capital in Raja and take control of town for several hours. 10 gubernatorial guards including a military captain were killed. Several solders wounded. Military reinforcements sent with clashes continuing throughout the afternoon. Government vehicles attempting to leave the city were ambushed and burnt. Reports that tribal leaders in the area have rejected President Kiir's proposed creation of Lol State, although identity of attackers remains unconfirmed. During the clashes, the unknown armed group also looted Red Cross vehicles.On afternoon of June 15, JEM fighters from Sudan (who have a base in Raja) aligned with government forces recaptured Raja from unknown armed group that claimed control after a dawn attack that same day. |
