The incident is related to the clashes between youths from eastern and western neighbourhoods of Burao following escalated protests against the transfer of Togdheer police divisional commander. About 12 militias loyal to Barre Hiraale attacked the residence the Jubaland minister of commerce and a neighbouring building occupied by Jubaland forces in Farjano neighbourhood in the evening of 26/12. The attackers and the Jubaland forces exchanged small arms fire for about 20 minutes after which the Hiraale's militia withdrew. One injured Hiraale's militiaman was captured by the Jubaland forces and later died of torture. Two other attackers were injured in the clash but were taken by their colleagues as they withdrew. |

Leysan clan militia burned a farm and a house belonging to a Harin farmer in Dambale (21km NW of Baidoa) in a long standing clan dispute between the two Rahanweyn sub-clans on 26/12. Soon after, Pro-Somali government forces (Leysan) based in Goof-Gaduud and Shabeellow (29km NW of Baidoa) went to the village to back their clan members but were confronted by al Shabaab fighters in Dambale.
